Shazam

Shazam

Postby Butterfield on Mon Jan 09, 2017 3:22 am

As someone who latches onto new technology about 5-10 years after everyone else and will nearly always greet these new technologies with a feeling of :bananabones:, one of the few things that has truly astounded me in recent years is Shazam, the music identification app thing one can download for one's iPhone or similar.

Being an avid music listener, it is by far my most used app; I use it for actual music identification when I don't know what a song is and I also use it to see how many times my favourite songs have been Shazamed by other people around the world, keeping a kind of mental chart of them. Why don't more people talk about Shazam? It's great! If you have such a phone and can download apps you must get it!

Discuss.

Yes, it's free. I wouldn't use it if it wasn't free!

I don't need it. I know every recoding made in the last 54 years.

:smug:

But nothing before that.

Doesn't get the first one, second one it thinks is 'Studio Group' Here I am. And suggests where I can buy it.

This is rubbish.

It did get Amphetamine Logic by the Sisters of Mercy in about 3 seconds though, that was impressive.

And how many Shazams did that have?

But yes, occasionally I find it doesn't pick up on random album tracks or remixes.

I've found a handful of songs having just one or two Shazams. I think a song by Eternal had just one Shazam.

My phone won't let me download it. It says there's not enough room for it, even though it has over 1GB free. :colbert:

I just used Shazam to find out what a piece of music I've heard on adverts, trailers and the like for years and I FINALLY know what it is!

It's "Get A Move On" by Mr Scruff. :sly:

It has been Shazamed 230k times.

Mr Scruff studied fine art at the Psalter Lane campus of Sheffield Hallam University. :box:
