Mistakes on record covers/track listings etc.

Mistakes on record covers/track listings etc.

Postby Butterfield on Sun Jan 18, 2015 5:40 pm

I thought this would make quite a thrilling and niche thread that this forum so oft loves.

I've mentioned on here before that on my 12" copy of Kylie Minogue's I Should Be So Lucky the middle label on the vinyl on BOTH sides says it's the B-side and lists the same B-side tracks. I'm not sure if it's just my copy or all were printed like that.

My CD of The London Boys' The Twelve Commandments of Dance spells it as "Commandements" on the title bar on the side of the CD case.

Then there's the wrong track times on many, many different album track listings that don't match up with the actual length of the songs. What's that all about?!

I have an original pressing of Led Zeppelin II that has a printing error where the illustration and text are offset against the brown section by a centimetre or so.

The inner gatefold is fine though.

There's also a sticker on the inside that says it bought in an record shop in Valetta, Malta. :D

I've just tried looking for evidence of any other copies out there and if mine might be worth anything.

I can't find none. :(

That means it might be really really rare! :excited:

I've got a Japan 12" single that plays some bucks fizz album or something on the B side.

You know you've just creaed another stamp collectors thread, only with me as the monster, In place of the Fangirl you will set up a Lord. And I shall not be dark, but beautiful and terrible as the Morning and the Night! Fair as the Sea and the Sun and the Snow upon the Mountain! Dreadful as the Storm and the Lightning! Stronger than the foundations of the earth. All shall love me and despair!

At least you can do something with records; the most exciting thing about stamps is the glue on the back.

No.

It's "Grand" on the cover, "Grand" on the label.

Which isn't grand. :(

I have a half-white label copy of The World Won't Listen by The Smiths (the B side has a white label instead of a track listing).

I took it back to the shop (in February 1987 when I bought it) and they got a free replacement ready and then said 'Of course, it might be valuable one day, maybe you should keep it,' so I did.

And the record shop girl very kindly let me copy the track listing for side B off the fresh one - onto a pad which was promoting 'Don't Forget Me' by ironically forgotten band Glass Tiger.

That is probably my favourite bit in LotR. I secretly hope that one time I'll read it and she'll actually mean it, and become Queen of Everything.

I bet even Tolkien took his pipe out of his mouth when he wrote that bit.

(I mistyped 'took his pope out of his mouth' which is interesting given his extreme enthusiasm for Catholicism and Galadriel's suspicious Mary resemblances)

The record I've got in my hand has a tracklisting on the label, which is numbered, but forgets to put a number on one of the tracks!

1 American Nation Anthem (Liberation Army Band)
2 Beautiful America (Liberation Army Band)
3 Nixon Take-off
4 Sailors on the turbulent Sea (Liberation Army Band)
??? The Meeting of Nixon and Chairman Mao
5 The Voice of Chiao Kuan (at UN General Assembly)
6 The Voice of Chiang Kai-Shek

Yeah, it's a rather odd album...

I've got a copy of the first Queen album which apparently has Deacon John on bass.

I only noticed recently that on my CD of Alexander O'Neal's debut album, Alexander O'Neal, the title on the side bar of the cover wrongly spells his name as "Alexander O'Neil".

On the back cover of the 1989 version of Do They Know It's Christmas by Band Aid II it lists the artists performing on it. For some reason it lists "Technotronics" rather than the correct Technotronic.

But I'm still not sure what Technotronic actually do on the song or where they feature on it. :?
