Evil Muscle cramps

Postby flibbington on Mon Feb 25, 2013 9:41 pm

It happened again. Last night I was happily snoozing away. To get more comfy I made a big stretch in bed and my left leg calf muscle seized up. The pain was horrific. I ended up doing a little scream.

Took an age to uncramp and much longer to go back to sleep. Even this morning it still feels like it might happen again. It's left me a little on edge.

What can I do? Coffee doesn't seem to be helping.

Apparently it looks something like this...

I did an internet search and a website said 'may lead to some unsettling pain'.

Unsettling pain my pixie garden! It was like a red hot poker inflicted by beelzebub himself.

I occasionally get cramp in a leg and you have to stretch it or something to get it to stop.

Yes, you need to stretch the affected muscle to get it to de-cramp. For instance, I find that if I get cramp in the foot, pressing my sole hard against the bedroom wall makes it clear up. Also, drinking plenty of water is supposed to help keep it at bay.

It helps to know I'm not the only HotW who suffers.

Pull your toes back and your heel forward as if taking your foot off the accelerator in a car cos you've seen a kid bouncing a ball along the pavement. Keep them pulled back however much it hurts until the cramp stops (cos it'll hurt worse if you don't).

Every so often Mrs F gets terrible cramp in her leg, usually in the early hours and it's not unknown for her to wake everyone up screaming. Exactly what Wendi said stretching is the only way to relieve it

It happened last night! But I had the presence of mind to heed both Wendys and Fangirls advice. Well more Fangirls because I didn't have to wall in my immediate vicinity to stretch against. I kind of remembered the driving analogy- but my 3am brain couldnt recall if I had to take my foot off the accelerator or push it against the brake. I breaked first, pain increased making me realise that was the wrong thing to do, then took my foot off the accelerator. As it were.

The good news is it took only a matter a seconds and it was mostly good again.

Last night again! :bawl:

I really am surprised by how much it hurts and how I have to end up screaming like a girl yelling out little a proper man.

Are you drinking enough water?

Are you getting enough salt?

Have you removed all the metal railings from your bed?

Poor flibbs :pet:

I had a bad cramp a few nights ago too. I've been told about the various procedures I ought to follow in such situations but in truth I almost always just end up rolling around screaming profanities into the night.

Doesn't a shortage of salt, after exercise, cause cramp? :dunno:

When I woke up this morning, I had a good stretch.

And promptly got cramp in my calf.

It still hasn't gone totally away, even now. :(
