What radio shows do you listen to?

Postby Call_of_the_Wendigo on Wed Mar 11, 2009 10:47 pm

Radio. It's very popular, you know. But what radio shows do you listen to?

I listen to Radcliffe and Maconie on Radio 2 and I listen to Janice Long on the same station, as well as the Bob Dylan show. I also listen to the Victoria Derbyshire show on 5-Live because I hate her and it gives me the chance to shout abuse at my radio, which, for someone of my temperament, is very therapeutic. I also sometimes listen to Hawksbee and Jacobs on Talksport, even though they're a bit on the establishment side for my liking. I also dip into what used to be Virgin Radio although, since they stopped doing Pete and Geoff, I don't have any particular show I listen to.

I listen to Radio 1 most of the time - I wake up to Chris Moyles [s]or Jo Whiley depending on when I get up[/s] and listen to bits of Edith Bowman (although I find her show a bit boring) and Scott Mills. After midnight, I join Wendikins and will sometimes listen to Janice Long. Radio 2 actually play a great random mix of choons after midnight - old, new, rock, pop etc.

Occasionally I will listen to Birmingham's very own BRMB at night when nothing is on Radio 1 or Radio 2 as I prefer it to our more local stations.

Simon Mayo's 1-4pm slot on 5-Live is the best radio programme in the history of radio, ever. And as an anecdote for you...I was helping my mother a couple of years ago clear out some stuff and we came across a scrap of paper with Mayo's signature on it. I must have got it off him when my choir went to broadcasting house to record an edition of 'Time & Tune' (sometime in the eighties). All this time I never knew I had his autograph - my life was made complete.

'Drive' on 5-Live is also good, though because it's more of a rapid stories format, it's a bit hit-and-miss. Unfortunately 5-Live now employ that cockend Richard Bacon and I refuse to listen. Cockend that he is.

Various slots on Talksport can be funny. Ian Wright and Adrian 'Gingerflaps', Hawksbee and thingamabob. James Whale was funny, but the station sacked him when, in the run-up to the mayoral election, he encouraged people to vote for Boris Johnson (big no-no, according to Ofcom). Sometimes I listened to Jon Gaunt, but the station sacked him when he called one of his guests a Nazi - I suppose he didn't agree with him.

Programmes on BBC Radio 4 and the world service are also excellent. BBC Radio Suffolk for football.
Up and at 'em!

Currently I listen to (the podcasts of) Chris Moyles, 30 Odd Foot of Pod (not technically radio, but funny), Scott Mills, rarely to Hamish & Andy, Grandma's Virginity Podcast (not technically radio, but funny), Now Show/News Quiz, Dr. Karl.

Tania Snuggs, the newsreader on Absolute Radio, has a very strange delivery.

What's happened to Paul Gambaccini's voice? He sounds like John Wayne. He didn't used to sound like John Wayne.

Radio 2's very womanny lately, what with Zoe Ball and Liza Tarbuck now having shows.

Tarbuck's great on the radio, the Ballster, less so.

They need to get one of them onto Chris Evans' breakfast show. The few times I've heard it it's just too manic for Radio 2 - especially considering he replaced the tweed jacketed Terry Wogan! It's no wonder the show has lost 500,000+ listeners in the last few months.

Ball goes on about her family endlessly too much but she's quite good with the traffic report woman (Sally Traffic or Lynn Bowles - whichever one it is, I always get them mixed up).

I do sometimes wonder what Absoulte Radio would have done if no one had ever invented Nirvana and Red Hot Chili Peppers. :hmn:
