What's your favourite "Alien" movie?

It's another question that's split the nation. Of the films in the Alien franchise, which is the best?

It's got to be Aliens, hands down. The first movie was OK but way too much of a 1950s B-movie remake for me. Anyone who's ever seen, It! The Terror From Beyond Space'll know exactly what I mean. Aliens is just so pumped up in comparison. It has zillions of aliens, it has marines getting wiped out left right and centre, it has the Ailen Queen .

It even has Newt, one of the few children in cinema history who manages to be cute without being nauseating.

Three was OK. Four sucked. AvP was better than I expected and better than everyone says it was. Has AvP2 come out yet? I lose track of these things.

Aliens for me too, followed by Alien.

The rest were poor.

I haven't seen those Alien vs predator ones.

'Alien' is the better movie. It is simply a film without fault. That's to take nothing away from 'Aliens', it is a superb film and has fantastic re-watchability.

I grew up with my old recorded-off-the-tele VHS copy, which had little of the swearing of the unedited version, so I was naturally quite shocked to hear all the bad language. The recent inclusion of the extended sentry pod scene was utterly fantastic, though they should never have put the colony segment in at the very beginning...it removed the (albeit necessarily false) belief that something other than an alien infestation had occurred.

Two of my all-time favourite movies.
Up and at 'em!

Back in the 90s I too had Alien recorded onto VHS, but somebody recorded some erotic Spanish movie over it.

I bet I know what the erotic Spanish movie was. Did it involve scenes on a beach?

Nope it was about a young man working as an underwear model and his female boss takes a liking to him and they do naughty things in a parked car, on a parked car and against a parked car :shake: .

i liked alien and aliens about the same. the last two weren't worthy of being included in alien franchise.

It's Aliens V Predator 2 on Channel 4 tonight. Anyone know if it's any good?

Not that it'll put me off watching, even if you say it is. Everyone said AVP 1 was crap but I enjoyed it.

These AvP movies are all vubbish. The reviews for it are lukewarm at best.

Also they don't count.

As for what Alien movie is the best, well there's only one Alien movie and it's called Alien - IMO a film arguably without equal - incredible cast, extraordinary design, unbelievably good direction, photography, editing, sfx and soundtrack. Absolutely flawless, if it's ever on TV I'm compelled to watch it - I find it as terrifying today as I did as a child and still hope (without luck so far) that Lambert and Parker will escape to this day.

Aliens was the single greatest cinema-going experience of my life and I like it a lot, but it's aged poorly and looks distinctly rickety and even low-budget.

Alien 3 is a depressing mess, but actually if you read the rejected synopses (especially William Gibson's dreadful version) you can see that they actually made a decent fist of an utter shambles (the script wasn't even finished when shooting began). Still it's not a good film by any standard.

Alien Resurrection is one of the poorest films I've seen.

This is a minor quibble, but one thing I'm not crazy about with Aliens is the over-design of the aliens - all that textured/ribbed head nonsense detracts from the creepy phallic shine of the original.

I also think that, while it is pretty good, the 'Queen Alien' is a bit OTT.

To give it it's due the alien from Alien 3 was pretty good - I like the canine aspect, the sleek shine of the head and the visceral, slimy ribs and limbs.

I was flicking round the channels the other night and I was treated to THE famous scene - where the lickle alien bursts out of John Hurt's(?) chest and runs off.

See, I'm not scared of that scene as I've seen it so many times. :bowtie: The scene, that is, I've never seen any other parts of the film. :shifty:

I watched Aliens V Predator 2. Everyone was right. It wasn't very good. Frankly, it was too dark. I couldn't tell what was going on, plus my reception for Channel 4 is pants these days, so the picture was all fuzzy.

Is everyone getting excited about Prometheus? :excited:

I'm not. There's nothing in the trailer that interests me at all. It just looks like a remake of Alien, with all the good bits removed. To be honest, it looks less interesting than the first Alien v Predator movie. :box:

I may go and see it, but in the meantime I'm going to avoid seeing any trailers and reading anything whatsoever about it.

Apart from what you just said about it!
