2018 Winter Olympics

2018 Winter Olympics

Postby Butterfield on Mon Feb 12, 2018 8:05 pm

I'm guessing we're all watching the 2018 Winter Olympics, from Pyongyang Pyeongchang, South Korea.

I've watched a bit of it. I saw Clare Balding doing a live review thing, blatantly sitting in a studio in Media City in Salford, with a backdrop overlooking Manchester. :ohno:

I didn't know they had winter in South Korea. I always assumed it was one of those places that's sunny all year round.

I always think NORTH Korea always looks overcast - winter or summer it's just grey and weatherless.

Thanks to these Winter Olympics I've also become aware of American gold-winning Luge(r?) Chris Mazdzer.

I'm watching live curling. :box:

A female Russian player just fell over backwards onto the ice having tripped over one of the curling stones. :shifty:

I've been reading about the sinister North Korean cheerleaders at the ice hockey.

Han Sun-woo, 25, who was sandwiched between two groups of North Korean cheerleaders, said: “They’re very old-fashioned. I never experienced the 70s, but I imagine it was like that.

Olympic sport of curling has an unexpected fan in Mr T

He found fame playing a brutish ex-army commando in 1980’s US hit show The A-Team but actor Mr T has revealed a softer side while watching the Winter Olympics.

The 65-year-old has developed a love for the sport of curling. The former soldier, wrestler and body-builder might seem an unlikely fan of sport which essentially involves sweeping polished stones across ice.

A-Team hardman

But the American actor, who regularly referred to his A-Team colleagues on the show as “fool”, now has a new mantra #curlingiscoolfool.

Taking to Twitter over the course of the week, he has praised the sport and the skills of those who practise it.

He wrote: “Curling is kind of different, but it’s Exciting.

“It’s not as easy as it looks. It takes some skills that’s for sure. I like it!”

And in a later tweet, he said: “I like curling, it’s less wear and tear on the body.

“I wrestled, boxed, and studied martial arts. I have nothing else to prove.

“Therefore I choose curling. #curlingiscoolfool”

He has referred to curling as a “finesse sport” requiring controlled strength and even hinted it may be a sport he turns his hand to in the future.

He said: “Let me tell you something, you may not win, but you never lose if you try.

“I Pity The Fool who won’t even Try!”

Just the other day I was thinking 'Is Mr T dead?' and I find that he's not only alive, but interested in curling. And in quite good health whenever that photo was taken.
