Swear words that only exist in Neighbours

Melbourne's Ramsay Street is the most famous close in Australia - and here's your chance to have your say, on its very own forum.

Swear words that only exist in Neighbours

Neighbours is of course a pre-watershed show, and so profanity is verboten. Happily, the Ramsay Street writers have always shown a unique level of ingenuity when it comes to getting round the problem, by making up their own swear words. Here's your chance to be naughty by reminding us of the various obscenities that have existed only in the minds of our best loved characters.

The obvious one that leaps to mind is Spigging, as in, "Get your hands of me, you spigging moron."

Spunk = sexy man

Rapped/rapt = pleased

I believe galah has been used as a term of abuse in Neighbours too.

I seem to remember there was a period in the show when the characters used to insult each other by calling each other, "You troll," which, admittedly isn't a made up word or saying but I've never heard anyone actually say it outside of Neighbours.

'Rack off' was always my favourite. Plus the amusing use of 'spunk'.
Even me?

Ya dag!= A dag is technically the matted wool on a sheep's tail, but in typical useage throughout Australia, it refers to people who don't have a neat, tidy or cultured appearance.

^^

Home and Away's Sally Fletcher had a dog called Dag Dog - who, like so many other soap characters, never got mentioned again.

Do they still say "you dag"? I don't think I've heard it in a while but thanks for the translation, Finkle - our resident Anglo-Aussie. :tongue: Or should that be Brummie-possibly-soon-to-be-Aussie. :grin:

I think the word dag still gets wheeled out occasionally but it's nothing like as common as in the old days when everyone was saying it left, right and centre.
